See LIGHT. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> from kata, &#8220;down&#8221; (intensive), and No. 1 signifies &#8220;to burn up, burn utterly,&#8221; as of chaff, <span class='bible'>Mat 3:12<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 3:17<\/span>; tares, <span class='bible'>Mat 13:30<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Mat 13:40<\/span>; the earth and its works, <span class='bible'>2Pe 3:10<\/span>; trees and grass, <span class='bible'>Rev 8:7<\/span>. This form should be noted in <span class='bible'>Act 19:19<\/span>, <span class='bible'>1Co 3:15<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Heb 13:11<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Rev 17:16<\/span>. In each place the full rendering &#8220;burn utterly&#8221; might be used, as in <span class='bible'>Rev 18:8<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> from ek, &#8220;out&#8221; (intensive), and No. 1, lit., &#8220;to burn out,&#8221; in the Passive Voice, &#8220;to be kindled, burn up,&#8221; is used of the lustful passions of men, <span class='bible'>Rom 1:27<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> from pur, &#8220;fire, to glow with heat,&#8221; is said of the feet of the Lord, in the vision in <span class='bible'>Rev 1:15<\/span>; it is translated &#8220;fiery&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Eph 6:16<\/span> (of the darts of the evil one); used metaphorically of the emotions, in <span class='bible'>1Co 7:9<\/span>; <span class='bible'>2Co 11:29<\/span>; elsewhere literally, of the heavens, <span class='bible'>2Pe 3:12<\/span>; of gold, <span class='bible'>Rev 3:18<\/span> (RV, &#8220;refined&#8221;). See FIERY, FIRE, TRY. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> or empretho, &#8220;to burn up,&#8221; occurs in <span class='bible'>Mat 2:7<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> akin to A, No. 1 (Eng., &#8220;caustic&#8221;), is found in <span class='bible'>Heb 6:8<\/span>, lit., &#8220;whose end is unto burning.&#8221; Cp. BRANDED. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> is rendered &#8220;burning heat&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Jam 1:11<\/span>, AV (RV, &#8220;scorching&#8221;). See HEAT. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> akin to A.
