About 1626 he became acquainted with archbishop Usher, then at Oxford, who admired his talents, and took him to Ireland&#8217; where he made him one of his chaplains. Soon after this Carpenter was advanced to a deanery. He died at Dublin, according to Wood, in 1628; according to Fuller, in 1635. His publications include Philosophia Libera, etc. (1621), memorable as one of the first attacks upon the Aristotelian philosophy:  Geographie Delineated (1625):and several Sermons.
