Only in 1Sa 17:20; 1Sa 26:5; 1Sa 26:7, margin &#8220;place of carriages,&#8221; i.e. &#8220;the trench,&#8221; alluding to the circle of wagons round the encampment. Elsewhere the things carried, baggage (1Sa 17:22; Isa 10:28; Jdg 18:21), literally, heavy things, i.e. the precious goods which the Danites had just seized on. Isa 46:1; &#8220;your carriages were heavy laden,&#8221; rather &#8220;(the images) which used to be carried by you (in solemn procession) are become heavy burdens&#8221;; instead of carrying you as Jehovah does His people (Isa 46:3-4), they have to be carried as heavy burdens by you.
