He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford, where he received his A.M. in 1796; was appointed to the vicarage of Abbots-Bromley, Staffordshire, in 1797, became assistant librarian in the British Museum in 1826, and died in September, 1844. Mr. Cary published, A Translation of Dante&#8217;s Inferno, Purgsatorio, and Paradiso, in English blank verse with notes: A Translation of the Birds of Aristophanes, and of the Odes of Pindar; Lives of English Poets, from Johnson to Kirke White; intended as a continuation of Johnson&#8217;s Lives: The Early French Poets; and carefully revised editions of Pope, Cowper, Milton, Thomson, and Young.
