This verb conveys the idea of force suddenly exercised, as in <span class='bible'>Mat 11:12<\/span>, &#8220;take (it) by force;&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 12:29<\/span>, &#8220;spoil&#8221; (some mss. have diarpazo here); in <span class='bible'>Mat 13:19<\/span>, RV, &#8220;snatcheth;&#8221; for forceful seizure, see also <span class='bible'>Joh 6:15<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Joh 10:12<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Joh 10:28-29<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 23:10<\/span>; in <span class='bible'>Jud 1:23<\/span>, RV, &#8220;snatching.&#8221; See PLUCK, PULL, SNATCH, TAKE (by force). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to receive,&#8221; is once used of &#8220;catching&#8221; by fraud, circumventing, <span class='bible'>2Co 12:16<\/span>. In <span class='bible'>Mat 21:39<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 12:3<\/span>, RV &#8220;took,&#8221; for AV &#8220;caught.&#8221; See ACCEPT, No. 4. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to take by hunting&#8221; (from agra, &#8220;a hunt, a catch&#8221;), is used metaphorically, of the Pharisees and Herodians in seeking to catch Christ in His talk, <span class='bible'>Mar 12:13<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to hunt or catch wild beasts&#8221; (therion, &#8220;a wild beast&#8221;), is used by Luke of the same event as in No. 3, <span class='bible'>Luk 11:54<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to take alive:&#8221; see CAPTIVE, B, No. 3. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to capture:&#8221; see APPREHEND, No. 2. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> sun, used intensively, and No. 1, &#8220;to snatch, to seize, to keep a firm grip of,&#8221; is used only by Luke, and translated &#8220;caught&#8221; in the AV of <span class='bible'>Luk 8:29<\/span>, of demon-possession; in <span class='bible'>Act 6:12<\/span>, of the act of the elders and scribes in seizing Stephen, RV, more suitably, &#8220;seized.&#8221; So in <span class='bible'>Act 19:29<\/span>. In <span class='bible'>Act 27:15<\/span>, it is used of the effects of wind upon a ship. See SEIZE. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> sun, and No. 2, &#8220;to seize,&#8221; is used, similarly to No. 7, in <span class='bible'>Act 26:21<\/span>, of the act of the Jews in seizing Paul in the temple.
