a Protestant Episcopal minister, brother of Dr. Orin Clark, was born at New Marlborough, Mass., July 20, 1786. For a time he taught school, and pursued both his classical and theological studies at the Episcopal Academy in Cheshire, Conn. In 1810 he received deacon’s orders, and went to western New York as a missionary was ordained priest Sept. 15,1812, and preached at Auburn for nine months, then removed to Manlius, Onondaga Co., and there preached for several years; in 1818 went to Buffalo,. and travelled extensively to collect funds for the building of St. Paul’s Church in that city; July 17, 1820, became rector of Christ Church, Ballston Spa, and remained four years; removed to New York city in 1824,. organized All-Saints’ Church on May 27 of that year, and was made its first rector; in 1837 resigned the rectorship, and removed to Michigan with the intention of retiring from active work; but having settled in Brighton, opened his’ own house for. public service, and. in process of time a church was organized. He died there, Sept. 13, 1841. Dr. Clark published a number of sermons; the last, The Steward’s Reckoning, a volume of eighteen discourses, was issued by request of the vestry of All- Saints’ in 1833.
