Born in Rome; died  probably in exile, c.99. The first Apostolic Father , little is known of his life except that his &#8220;Epistle to the Corinthians&#8221; is authentic. The work remains today one of the valuable monuments of the sub-Apostolic  age, and a strong proof for the primacy of the Catholic Church . His name occurs in the Canon of the Mass, and Origen  and Jerome identify him with Paul&#8217;s fellow worker (Philip 4). Patron of marble workers, stone-cutters, and mariners.
