He graduated from Yale College in 1821; became rector of St. Peter’s, Salem, Massachusetts, in 1827; of Christ Church, Cambridge, in 1829; of Trinity Church, New Rochelle, N.Y., in 1839; afterwards of St. Paul’s Church, Troy; president of Transylvania University, Lexington, Kentucky; professor of Trinity College, Hartford, in 1849; in Berkeley Divinity School, Middletown, Connecticut, in 1872, and remained in that position until his death, June 21, 1885. He was the author of, Theological Commonplace Book (1832, 1857): Remarks on Norton’s Statement of Reasons, etc. (1833): Bible in Paragraphs (1834; an abridgment of Townsend’s Chronological Bible, which he also edited in full, 1837): Puritanism (1844), besides frequent contributions to the journals of his denomination.<\/p>\n
