He was two years court-preacher to the duke of York, afterwards James II of England, but was eventually banished, and retired to Parai, in Burgundy, where he died, February 15, 1682. He was a famous preacher, and.became noted for his &#8220;devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus,&#8221; a sentiment which the notorious Marie Alacoque carried to the extreme of fanaticism.
