He joined the Congregational Church in 1826; graduated at Amherst College in 1836, and at Auburn Theological Seminary in 1841; commenced preaching at Clintonville, N.Y., in 1840, and was ordained there November 4, 1841; removed to St. Lawrence County in 1849, and united with the old Ogdensburg Presbytery in 1850; preached at Oswegatchie, Morristown, Antwerp, Evanston, and Heuvelton. From 1865, he became a teacher in a classical school at Ogdensburg, also preaching occasionally. He died there, January 28, 1879. Mr. Conant was a profound scholar, and an ardent  advocate of temperance. He published only some Sermons and articles in periodicals.
