Knox based his work on the Swiss Confessions. Known as the &#8220;Scottish Confession&#8221; it was ratified by Parliament and imposed as the religion of Scotland. It is of a Calvinistic  nature, and remained until superseded by the Westminster Confession. James VI, 1581 , commissioned James Craig to draw up a condemnation of papistry. Known as the &#8220;King&#8217;s Confession,&#8221; or the &#8220;Scotica Secunda,&#8221; later as the &#8220;National Covenant,&#8221; it endorses the Confession of 1560  and proceeds with a vituperation of Catholicity .
