{"id":38548,"date":"2022-09-28T13:06:05","date_gmt":"2022-09-28T18:06:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/dictionaries\/convict-including-the-av-convince\/"},"modified":"2022-09-28T13:06:05","modified_gmt":"2022-09-28T18:06:05","slug":"convict-including-the-av-convince","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/dictionaries\/convict-including-the-av-convince\/","title":{"rendered":"Convict (including the AV, Convince)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Convict (including the AV, Convince)<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p> signifies (a) &#8220;to convict, confute, refute,&#8221; usually with the suggestion of putting the convicted person to shame; see <span class='bible'>Mat 18:15<\/span>, where more than telling the offender his fault is in view; it is used of &#8220;convicting&#8221; of sin, <span class='bible'>Joh 8:46<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Joh 16:8<\/span>; gainsayers in regard to the faith, <span class='bible'>Tit 1:9<\/span>; transgressors of the Law, <span class='bible'>Jam 2:9<\/span>; some texts have the verb in <span class='bible'>Joh 8:9<\/span>; (b) &#8220;to reprove,&#8221; <span class='bible'>1Co 14:24<\/span>, RV (for AV, &#8220;convince&#8221;), for the unbeliever is there viewed as being reproved for, or &#8220;convicted&#8221; of, his sinful state; so in <span class='bible'>Luk 3:19<\/span>; it is used of reproving works, <span class='bible'>Joh 3:20<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Eph 5:11<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Eph 5:13<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Ti 5:20<\/span>; <span class='bible'>2Ti 4:2<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Tit 1:13<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Tit 2:15<\/span>; all these speak of reproof by word of mouth. In <span class='bible'>Heb 12:5<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Rev 3:19<\/span>, the word is used of reproving by action.
