In <span class='bible'>Act 24:2<\/span>, lit., &#8220;reformations come about (or take place, lit., &#8216;become&#8217;),&#8221; the RV has &#8220;evils are corrected,&#8221; AV, &#8220;worthy deeds are done;&#8221; there is no word for &#8220;worthy&#8221; or for &#8220;deeds&#8221; in the original. Some texts have katorthoma, which has the same meaning. See diorthosis, &#8220;reformation,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Heb 9:10<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> lit., &#8220;a restoration to an upright or right state&#8221; (epi, &#8220;to,&#8221; ana, &#8220;up, or again,&#8221; and orthoo, see No. 1), hence, &#8220;correction,&#8221; is used of the Scripture in <span class='bible'>2Ti 3:16<\/span>, referring to improvement of life and character. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> has two meanings, corresponding to the two meanings of the verb paideuo (see below) from which it is derived, (a) &#8220;a teacher, preceptor, corrector,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Rom 2:20<\/span> (AV, &#8220;instructor&#8221;), (b) &#8220;a chastiser,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Heb 12:9<\/span>, rendered &#8220;to chasten&#8221; (AV, &#8220;which corrected;&#8221; lit., &#8220;chastisers&#8221;).
