He became a priest of the Armenian Church 1683 , and in 1696  was converted to Catholicity . From 1697  to 1707  he was pastor of Saint George&#8217;s in Sulu Monastir. At that period a bitter persecution of Uniats in the Ottoman Empire was just beginning. Father Carboniam was arrested in April, 1707 , as &#8220;rebellious to the laws of the Ottoman Empire.&#8221; In November, 1707 , he was again incarcerated as the result of riots of schismatic priests and laity, and condemned to death.
