Cosmas da Carboniam, Blessed<\/h2>\n

Martyr , born Constantinople , 1656 , died 1707 . He became a priest of the Armenian Church 1683 , and in 1696 was converted to Catholicity . From 1697 to 1707 he was pastor of Saint George’s in Sulu Monastir. At that period a bitter persecution of Uniats in the Ottoman Empire was just beginning. Father Carboniam was arrested in April, 1707 , as “rebellious to the laws of the Ottoman Empire.” In November, 1707 , he was again incarcerated as the result of riots of schismatic priests and laity, and condemned to death. Beatified , 23 June 1929 . <\/p>\n
