He joined the Church in his seventeenth year, received a very limited education, was several years class-leader and exhorter, and finally, in 1854, entered the Georgia Conference. He continued his ministerial labors until his death, May 6, 1863. Mr. Cotter was a simple, earnest preacher. See Minutes of Annual Conferences of the M.E.
