In 1870 he became rector of Grace Church, Ravenna, to which parish was added, in 1872, Christ Church, in Kent; the next year he was missionary at Kinsmanu and Niles; in 1877 he removed to Cleveland, as missionary at large, an office which he continued to hold  until his death, in May 1880.
