See LABOR, WORK. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> denotes &#8220;a doing, transaction, a deed the action of which is looked upon as incomplete and in progress&#8221; (cp. prasso, &#8220;to practice&#8221;); in <span class='bible'>Mat 16:27<\/span>, RV, &#8220;deeds,&#8221; for AV, &#8220;works;&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Luk 23:51<\/span>, &#8220;deed;&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Luk 23:41<\/span>, the verb is used [see Note (2) below]; <span class='bible'>Act 19:18<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Rom 8:13<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Col 3:9<\/span>. In <span class='bible'>Rom 12:4<\/span> it denotes an &#8220;action,&#8221; business, or function translated &#8220;office.&#8221; See OFFICE, WORK. <\/p>\n<p> Note: Contrast pragma, &#8220;that which has been done, an accomplished act,&#8221; e.g., <span class='bible'>Jam 3:16<\/span>, RV, &#8220;deed,&#8221; AV, &#8220;work.&#8221; <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;a doing&#8221; (akin to poieo, &#8220;to do&#8221;), is translated &#8220;deed&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Jam 1:25<\/span>, AV, (RV, &#8220;doing&#8221;). <\/p>\n<p> Note: Cp. poiema, &#8220;a work done,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Rom 1:20<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Eph 2:10<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> see BENEFIT, No. 1. <\/p>\n<p> Notes: (1) Katergazomai, &#8220;to work out, bring about something, to perpetrate a deed,&#8221; is used with the neuter demonstrative pronoun touto, &#8220;this,&#8221; in <span class='bible'>1Co 5:3<\/span>, &#8220;hath (so) done this deed,&#8221; AV; RV, &#8220;hath (so) wrought this thing.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p> (2) Prasso (see No. 2), is used in <span class='bible'>Luk 23:41<\/span>, with the neuter plural of the relative pronoun, &#8220;of our deeds,&#8221; lit., &#8220;(the things) which we practiced.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p> (3) In <span class='bible'>2Co 12:12<\/span> the phrase &#8220;mighty deeds&#8221; (RV, &#8220;mighty works&#8221;) translates dunameis, &#8220;powers&#8221; (marg.).
