See INFIRMITY, SICKNESS, WEAKNESS. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> primarily denotes &#8220;softness&#8221; (cp. malakos, &#8220;soft,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 11:8<\/span>, etc.); hence, &#8220;debility, disease.&#8221; It is found in Matthew only, <span class='bible'>Mat 4:23<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 9:35<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 10:1<\/span>. It is frequent in the Sept., e.g., <span class='bible'>Gen 42:4<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Gen 44:29<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Deu 7:15<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Deu 28:61<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Isa 38:9<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Isa 53:3<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> akin to Lat. nocere, &#8220;to injure&#8221; (Eng., &#8220;nosology&#8221;), is the regular word for &#8220;disease, sickness,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 4:23<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 8:17<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 9:35<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 10:1<\/span>, RV, &#8220;disease,&#8221; AV, &#8220;sickness;&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Mat 4:24<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 1:34<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 4:40<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 6:17<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 9:1<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 19:12<\/span>, AV and RV render it &#8220;diseases.&#8221; In <span class='bible'>Luk 7:21<\/span>, AV has &#8220;infirmities.&#8221; The most authentic mss. omit the word in <span class='bible'>Mar 3:15<\/span>. See SICKNESS. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> an alternative form of No. 3, is found in some mss. in <span class='bible'>Joh 5:4<\/span>. Cp. noseo, &#8220;to dote about, have a diseased craving for,&#8221; <span class='bible'>1Ti 6:4<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> akin to A, No. 1, &#8220;to lack strength, to be weak, sick,&#8221; is translated &#8220;were diseased&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Joh 6:2<\/span>, AV (RV, &#8220;were sick&#8221;).
