Saint John Damascene entitles his homily on the Assumption  &#8220;In Dormitionem Marire&#8221; (On the Falling Asleep of Mary). It was also the title of an early apocryphal  work, &#8220;Transitus Mari,&#8221; c.4th century , falsely attributed to Saint John the Evangelist, and describing the death of the Blessed Virgin.
