In the Sept., <span class='bible'>Lev 10:9<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Num 6:3<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Num 28:7<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Deu 14:26<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Deu 29:6<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Isa 5:11<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Isa 5:22<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Isa 24:9<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Isa 28:7<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Isa 29:9<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to drink,&#8221; is used chiefly in the Gospels and in 1 Cor., whether literally (most frequently), or figuratively, (a) of &#8220;drinking&#8221; of the blood of Christ, in the sense of receiving eternal life, through His death, <span class='bible'>Joh 6:53-54<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Joh 6:56<\/span>; (b) of &#8220;receiving&#8221; spiritually that which refreshes, strengthens and nourishes the soul, <span class='bible'>Joh 7:37<\/span>; (c) of &#8220;deriving&#8221; spiritual life from Christ, <span class='bible'>Joh 4:14<\/span>, as Israel did typically, <span class='bible'>1Co 10:4<\/span>; (d) of &#8220;sharing&#8221; in the sufferings of Christ humanly inflicted, <span class='bible'>Mat 20:22-23<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 10:38-39<\/span>; (e) of &#8220;participating&#8221; in the abominations imparted by the corrupt religious and commercial systems emanating from Babylon, <span class='bible'>Rev 18:3<\/span>; (f) of &#8220;receiving&#8221; Divine judgment, through partaking unworthily of the Lord&#8217;s Supper, <span class='bible'>1Co 11:29<\/span>; (g) of &#8220;experiencing&#8221; the wrath of God, <span class='bible'>Rev 14:10<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Rev 16:6<\/span>; (h) of the earth&#8217;s &#8220;receiving&#8221; the benefits of rain, <span class='bible'>Heb 6:7<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> from methu, &#8220;wine, to be drunk,&#8221; is used in <span class='bible'>Joh 2:10<\/span> in the Passive Voice, and is translated in the RV, &#8220;have drunk freely;&#8221; AV, &#8220;have well drunk.&#8221; See DRUNK. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to give to drink, to make to drink,&#8221; is used (a) in the material sense, in <span class='bible'>Mat 10:42<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 25:35<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Mat 25:37<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Mat 25:42<\/span> (here of &#8220;ministering&#8221; to those who belong to Christ and thus doing so virtually to Him); <span class='bible'>Mat 27:48<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 9:41<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 15:36<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 13:15<\/span> (&#8220;to watering&#8221;); <span class='bible'>Rom 12:20<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Co 3:7-8<\/span>; (b) figuratively, with reference to &#8220;teaching&#8221; of an elementary character, <span class='bible'>1Co 3:2<\/span>, &#8220;I fed (you with milk);&#8221; of &#8220;spiritual watering by teaching&#8221; the Word of God, <span class='bible'>1Co 3:6<\/span>; of being &#8220;provided&#8221; and &#8220;satisfied&#8221; by the power and blessing of the Spirit of God, <span class='bible'>1Co 12:13<\/span>; of the effect upon the nations of &#8220;partaking&#8221; of the abominable mixture, provided by Babylon, of paganism with details of the Christian faith, <span class='bible'>Rev 14:8<\/span>.
