It implies previous toil and care. Its chief significance is that of taking, or causing to take, rest; it is used in the Middle Voice in <span class='bible'>Luk 12:19<\/span>, &#8220;take (thine) ease,&#8221; indicative of unnecessary, self-indulgent relaxation. In the papyri it is used technically, as an agricultural term. Cp. anapausis, &#8220;rest.&#8221; See REFRESH, REST. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> denotes &#8220;a letting loose, relaxation, easing;&#8221; it is connected with aniemi, &#8220;to loosen, relax&#8221; (ana, &#8220;back,&#8221; and hiemi, &#8220;to send&#8221;). It signifies &#8220;rest,&#8221; not from toil, but from endurance and suffering. Thus it is said (a) of a &#8220;less vigorous&#8221; condition in imprisonment, <span class='bible'>Act 24:23<\/span>, &#8220;indulgence,&#8221; AV, &#8220;liberty;&#8221; (b) &#8220;relief&#8221; from anxiety, <span class='bible'>2Co 2:13<\/span>; <span class='bible'>2Co 7:5<\/span>, &#8220;relief&#8221; (AV, &#8220;rest&#8221;); (c) &#8220;relief&#8221; from persecutions, <span class='bible'>2Th 1:7<\/span>, &#8220;rest;&#8221; (d) of &#8220;relief&#8221; from the sufferings of poverty, <span class='bible'>2Co 8:13<\/span>, &#8220;be eased,&#8221; lit., &#8220;(that there should be) easing for others (trouble to you).&#8221; Cp. the synonymous word anapausis, &#8220;cessation or rest&#8221; (akin to A).
