He graduated in medicine at Paris and settled in Montreal, but having been attainted of treason through his participation in a rebellion to secure popular rights, 1837, he fled to the United States and settled at Albany. After writing the &#8220;History of New Netherland,&#8221; he was officially appointed to compile the documents bearing on New York State and colonial history.
