She was persecuted as a Christian under the emperors Diocletian and Maximin Hercules, and suffered, as reported by Prudentius, most fearful tortures. Nevertheless Engratia &#8220;recovered with the time,&#8221; and in spite of her wounds died at an advanced age. Her relics are preserved at Saragossa, and she is commemorated April 16.
