He learned the trade of a carpenter, and at different times in his vouth went to sea; but was converted in 1807, and united with a Free- will Baptist Church. The following year he began to preach, at once engaged in itinerant labor, and was ordained September 20, 1809. For several years he was a travelling preacher, chiefly in New England. He became regular pastor at York in April 1818, but gradually became identified with the body called &#8220;Christians.&#8221; He died at Kittery, December 29, 1851, where he had been pastor for thirty-six years.
