He was the son of Thomas Crawford, the American  sculptor, was educated in American , English, and German  colleges and the Roman University, and became a journalist and critic. He was a convert to the Catholic Faith  which he professed publicly, but his treatment of things Catholic  in certain of his writings is much to be condemned.
