a Scotch clergyman, graduated from the university and Marischal College, Aberdeen, in 1771; was licensed to preach February 3, 1779; presented to the living at Drumoak in November 1785, ordained June 15, 1786, and died January 31, 1828, aged seventy-two years. He graduated from Lincoln College, Oxford, in 1839; in 1840 became a fellow of Oriel College, and acted as tutor there for five years; in 1847 became rector at Cholderton, Wiltshire; in 1860 at Upton Nervet, near Reading; in 1870 bishop of Manchester, and died October 22,1885.
