The son of a Gothic general, he studied at Palencia and later retired as a hermit  to a desert in Galicia. He founded ten monasteries , including Complutum. Appointed Bishop  of Dumium, 654 , he received the Archbishopric  of Braga, 656 , and attended the synod of Toledo that same year. Represented in art  with a stag which he had saved. Relics at Compostela.
