His work lay along Cartesian lines, but he felt dissatisfied with Descartes&#8217; solution of the mind-body problem. As a result, he developed the doctrine of occasionalism according to which interaction between mind and body is impossible, but God effects bodily motions &#8220;on occasion&#8221; of each mentnl process.<\/p>\n<p>A.
