In the OT, it is found abundantly in the Psalms, from <span class='bible'>Psa 2:11<\/span> onward to <span class='bible'>Psa 149:2<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Psa 149:5<\/span> (Sept.). It conveys the idea of jubilant exultation, spiritual &#8220;gladness,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 5:12<\/span>, &#8220;be exceeding glad,&#8221; the Lord&#8217;s command to His disciples; <span class='bible'>Luk 1:47<\/span>, in Mary&#8217;s song; <span class='bible'>Luk 10:21<\/span>, of Christ&#8217;s exultation (&#8220;rejoiced&#8221;); cp. <span class='bible'>Act 2:26<\/span>, &#8220;(My tongue) was glad,&#8221; AV (RV, &#8220;rejoiced&#8221;); <span class='bible'>Joh 8:56<\/span>, of Abraham; <span class='bible'>Act 16:34<\/span>, RV, &#8220;rejoiced greatly&#8221; (of the Philippian jailor); <span class='bible'>1Pe 1:6<\/span>, <span class='bible'>1Pe 1:8<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Pe 4:13<\/span> (&#8220;with exceeding joy&#8221;), of believers in general; in <span class='bible'>Rev 19:7<\/span>, RV, &#8220;be exceeding glad&#8221; (AV, &#8220;rejoice&#8221;). See REJOICE. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to cheer, gladden,&#8221; is rendered &#8220;maketh &#8230; glad&#8221; in <span class='bible'>2Co 2:2<\/span>. See FARE, MERRY, REJOICE. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;gladly&#8221; (from hedus, &#8220;sweet&#8221;), is used in <span class='bible'>Mar 6:20<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 12:37<\/span>; <span class='bible'>2Co 11:19<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> the superlative degree of No. 1, &#8220;most gladly, most delightedly, with great relish,&#8221; is rendered &#8220;most gladly&#8221; in <span class='bible'>2Co 12:9<\/span>, <span class='bible'>2Co 12:15<\/span> (RV; AV, &#8220;very gladly&#8221;). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;with delight, delightedly, gladly,&#8221; is found in <span class='bible'>Act 21:17<\/span>.
