He was of a refugee French family, and was the son of a modeller in wax, settled in London. He displayed from his childhood an extraordinary passion for rare books, and was educated at Exeter College, Oxford. He became eminent as a preacher, notwithstanding his personal disadvantages, but never sought or obtained a preferment. He was a good scriptural critic, and excelled as a bibliographer. He died December 16, 1812. See (Lond.)
