The winner of the Grand Prix de Rome, 1850 , he studied four years in Rome, painting there the canvas now in the Luxembourg, &#8220;The Body of Saint Cecilia borne to the Catacombs.&#8221; His religious pictures are admired for their sentiment and harmonious color.
