{"id":53028,"date":"2022-09-28T21:09:38","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T02:09:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/dictionaries\/hang\/"},"modified":"2022-09-28T21:09:38","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T02:09:38","slug":"hang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/dictionaries\/hang\/","title":{"rendered":"Hang"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Hang<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p> is used (a) transitively in <span class='bible'>Act 5:30<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 10:39<\/span>; in the Passive Voice, in <span class='bible'>Mat 18:6<\/span>, of a millstone about a neck, and in <span class='bible'>Luk 23:39<\/span>, of the malefactors; (b) intransitively, in the Middle Voice, in <span class='bible'>Mat 22:40<\/span>, of the dependence of &#8220;the Law and the prophets&#8221; (i.e., that which they enjoin) upon the one great principle of love to God and one&#8217;s neighbor (as a door &#8220;hangs&#8221; on a hinge, or as articles &#8220;hang&#8221; on a nail); in <span class='bible'>Act 28:4<\/span>, of the serpent &#8220;hanging&#8221; from Paul&#8217;s hand; in <span class='bible'>Gal 3:13<\/span> the word is used in a quotation from the Sept. of <span class='bible'>Deu 21:23<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to hang from, or upon&#8221; (ek, and No. 1), is used in the Middle Voice (ekkremamai) metaphorically in <span class='bible'>Luk 19:48<\/span>, RV, &#8220;(the people all) &#8220;hung&#8221; upon (Him, listening),&#8221; AV, &#8220;were very attentive.&#8221; In the Sept., <span class='bible'>Gen 44:30<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> signifies (a) &#8220;to disregard, leave alone, leave undone,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Luk 11:42<\/span> (some mss. have aphiemi, here); (b) &#8220;to relax, loosen,&#8221; and, in the Passive Voice, &#8220;to be relaxed, exhausted,&#8221; said of hands that &#8220;hang&#8221; down in weakness, <span class='bible'>Heb 12:12<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> signifies &#8220;to lie round&#8221; (peri, &#8220;around,&#8221; keimai, &#8220;to lie&#8221;); then, &#8220;to be hanged round,&#8221; said of &#8220;a great millstone&#8221; (lit., &#8220;a millstone turned by an ass&#8221;), <span class='bible'>Mar 9:42<\/span>, RV, and marg., to be &#8220;hung&#8221; round the neck of him who causes one of Christ&#8217;s &#8220;little ones&#8221; to stumble; in <span class='bible'>Luk 17:2<\/span>, &#8220;a millstone.&#8221; See BOUND (to be). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> signifies &#8220;to strangle;&#8221; in the Middle Voice, to &#8220;hang&#8221; oneself <span class='bible'>Mat 27:5<\/span>.
