A city in the extreme south of Judah, mentioned between Baalah and Azem (Jos 15:29), and therefore doubtless included within the territory set off to Simeon, as the associated places were (Jos 19:3), which afford the only means for a  conjectural position nearly midway from the Dead Sea towards the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n<p>2. Contracted from Ije Abarim, a late stage of Israel&#8217;s wilderness journey (Num 33:45; Num 21:11), = &#8220;ruinous heaps&#8221;. On the S.E. border of Moab, in the midbar or &#8220;wilderness,&#8221; unenclosed uncultivated land, verdant in spring, but parched and dreary in summer. The &#8220;Abarim&#8221; distinguishes it from.<\/p>\n<p>2. Another Iim in S.W. Canaan (Jos 15:29). Abarim, (&#8220;farther regions or coast regions&#8221;), namely, the hills facing Jericho, the whole upland E. of Jordan, the Greek &#8220;Peraea.&#8221; Between Ije Abarim and Dibon Gad were the rivers Zared and Arnon.
