They were first noted by Lewis and Clark in 1804 . About 1841  they came under the influence of the Jesuits . The Washington tribes were gathered upon the Colville reservation in 1872 . The Idaho tribes are associated with the Coeur d&#8217;Alene, and are all Catholics, while at Colville the Lower Band is Protestant.
