A native of Ulster, he preached Christianity  in the south, and later became a disciple of Saint Patrick, by whom he was consecrated to his episcopate. He became spiritual director of Saint Brigid&#8217;s convent at Kildare, and about 480 he settled at Begerin where he built an oratory and cell, around which numerous disciples gathered.
