After working for several years as a clerk in a scrivener&#8217;s office, and for an attorney, he began in 1831 to write verses for the Journal of the Comet Club. He later contributed to the &#8220;Nation&#8221; inaugurated in 1842, to the &#8220;United Irishman,&#8221; the &#8220;Irish Tribute,&#8221; &#8220;The Irishman,&#8221; and the &#8220;Dublin Irish Catholic Magazine,&#8221; under fantastic signatures.
