In 1718 he became pastor of a congregation in Old Gravel Lane, Wapping, where he remained for forty- four years. In 1744 he went as divinity tutor to Coward&#8217;s Academy and died Sept. 16, 1762. His principal works are, Jewish Antiquities, with a Dissertation on the Hebrew Language (London, 1766; 10th edition, 1839, 8vo); a work which has long held a distinguished character for its accuracy and learning, and certainly one of the best works of the kind in the English language:  The Beauty and Benefit of early Piety (Lond. 1731, 18mo):  A Vindication of the Scripture Doctrine of Original Sin [Anonym.] (London, 1740, 8vo):  An Appeal to Reason and Common Sense (1755, 12mo):  Sermons to the Young (1743, 12mo), etc. See Orton, Life of Doddridge, p. 16, 243; Protestant Dissent.
