He joined the Discalced Franciscans of the province of Saint Didacus, founded by Saint Peter Baptist, but left the order in 1589 to engage in mercantile affairs which later brought him to the Philippines where he was re-admitted to the order, 1590. He was arrested with Peter Baptist and companions, tortured, and crucified. Patron of Mexico City. Canonized, 1862.
