Prior  of Melrose . Fourth abbot  of Melrose  in 1170 . Bishop  of Glasgow , Scotland  on 23 May  1174 . Worked to keep the Church  in Scotland  independent of the control of the archdioceses  in England , and was supported in this by the Vatican. Travelled  extensively and served as chaplain in the royal court  of Scotland .
