Lenormant, Francois<\/h2>\n

son of Charles, was born in Paris, January 17, 1837. He pursued the same studies which distinguished his father. In 1862 he was sub-librarian of the Institute, in 1874 professor of atchaeology at the large Paris library, and died December 10, 1883, leaving, Manuel d’Histoire Ancienne de l’Orient Jusqu’ aux Guerres Inediques (3d ed. 1869, 3 volumes; transl. into German, Berlin, 1869, 2 volumes; 2d ed. 1871): Lettres Assyriologiques et Epigraphiques (1871-72, 4 volumes): Les Premieres Civilisations (1874, 2 volumes; Germ. transl. Jena, 1875): Les Sciences Occultes en Asie (1874-75; Germ. transl. Jena, 1878), two parts; the first treating of La Magie chez les Chaldeens et les Origines Accadiennes; the second of La Divination et la Science des Presages chez les Chaldeens: Les Origines de l’Histoire d’Apres la Bible et les Traditions des Peuples Orientaux (1880-82, 2 volumes; Engl. transl.
