He studied at Jena and Gottingen, was tutor of prince Guinther of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt from 1829 to 1839, and professor at the gymnasium of his native place from 1839 to 1844. In the latter year he was appointed second deacon, in 1851 court-preacher and member of consistory, and in 1852 general-superintendent. He retired from the ministry in 1879, and died January 18, 1883.
