The first Norman bishop was Remigius of Fecamp, 1075, who built the cathedral , rebuilt under Saint Hugh (1186) and Robert Grosseteste. In 1536 occurred the &#8220;Pilgrimage of Grace,&#8221; an armed protest against religious changes. The last Catholic bishop, and also the last in England , was Thomas Watson (died  1584).
