See PATIENCE, and Note under FORBEAR. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> akin to A, &#8220;to be patient, longsuffering, to bear with,&#8221; lit., &#8220;to be long-tempered,&#8221; is rendered by the verb &#8220;to be longsuffering&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Luk 18:7<\/span>, RV (AV, &#8220;bear long&#8221;); in <span class='bible'>1Th 5:14<\/span>, RV (AV, &#8220;be patient&#8221;); so in <span class='bible'>Jam 5:7-8<\/span>; in <span class='bible'>2Pe 3:9<\/span>, AV and RV, &#8220;is longsuffering. See BEAR, No. 14, ENDURE, PATIENT, SUFFER. <\/p>\n<p> Note: &#8220;Longsuffering is that quality of self-restraint in the face of provocation which does not hastily retaliate or promptly punish; it is the opposite of anger, and is associated with mercy, and is used of God, <span class='bible'>Exo 34:6<\/span> (Sept.); <span class='bible'>Rom 2:4<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Pe 3:20<\/span>.
