Many years before removing to Texas he resided in Tennessee, where the early part of his ministerial life was spent. He became a member of the Presbytery of Brazos, and a leading minister of the Southern Presbyterian Church. indefatigable in advancing all its interests. He was the first president of Austin College, Texas. He died at Huntsville, November 27, 1879.
