QUIETNESS<\/h2>\n<p>The words  () and  (), always rendered &#8216;meek&#8217; and &#8216;meekness,&#8217; is a characteristic of those who inherit the earth, Mat 5:5; and, part of the fruit of the Spirit in the Christian, Gal 5:23 &#8211; it is seen in its perfection in the blessed Lord in the place He took as man. Mat 11:29; 2Co 10:1. It is the spirit and bearing of the pious in relation to men (Tit 3:2), as lowliness marks them in relation to God. It is in meekness that the engrafted word is received, Jam 1:21 &#8211; a contrast to the pride and wrath of man, Jam 1:20<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;meekness of wisdom&#8217; will be one mark of the behaviour of the wise, Jam 3:13. It is associated with lowliness and long-suffering in Eph 4:2; Col 3:12. See it in varied exercise in Gal 6:1; 2Ti 2:25; 1Co 4:21; 1Pe 3:15. In 1Pe 3:4-5 it is part of the incorruptible ornament of the wife, of great price before God, in her subjection to her husband<\/p>\n<p>, &#8216;quiet,&#8217; occurs with  in 1Pe 3:4, to which the end of 1Pe 3:6 may refer: it is translated &#8216;peaceable&#8217; in 1Ti 2:2. From it comes , expressing the general idea of &#8216;quietness,&#8217; as that which is enjoined upon the woman in 1Ti 2:11-12 of the same chapter (rather than &#8216;silence&#8217; A.V.)
