Some mss. have this verb for No. 3 in <span class='bible'>Mat 28:9<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 5:2<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 14:31<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Joh 4:51<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 16:16<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to meet with,&#8221; lit., &#8220;to meet together with&#8221; (sun, &#8220;with,&#8221; and antao, see No. 1), is used in <span class='bible'>Luk 9:37<\/span> (in <span class='bible'>Luk 9:18<\/span>, in some mss.); <span class='bible'>Luk 22:10<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 10:25<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Heb 7:1<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Heb 7:10<\/span>; metaphorically in <span class='bible'>Act 20:22<\/span> (&#8220;shall befall&#8221;). See BEFALL. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to go to meet, to meet,&#8221; has the same meaning as No 1, and is used in <span class='bible'>Mat 8:28<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 8:27<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Joh 11:20<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Joh 11:30<\/span>, and, in the most authentic mss., in <span class='bible'>Mat 28:29<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 5:2<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 14:31<\/span> (of meeting in battle); <span class='bible'>Joh 4:51<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Joh 12:18<\/span> and <span class='bible'>Act 16:16<\/span> (see No. 1). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to happen to be near or present, to chance to be by&#8221; (para, &#8220;beside, near,&#8221; tunchano, &#8220;to happen&#8221;), occurs in <span class='bible'>Act 17:17<\/span>, &#8220;met with (him).&#8221; <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to confer, to fall in with, meet with,&#8221; is translated &#8220;met&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Act 20:14<\/span>, RV (AV, &#8220;met with&#8221;), of the Apostle Paul&#8217;s &#8220;meeting&#8221; his companions at Assos. See CONFER, No. 3. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;a going to meet&#8221; (akin to A, No. 3), preceded by the preposition eis, &#8220;unto a meeting,&#8221; translated &#8220;to meet,&#8221; is found in <span class='bible'>Joh 12:13<\/span>, and in the most authentic mss., in <span class='bible'>Mat 8:34<\/span> (see No. 3); <span class='bible'>Mat 25:1<\/span> (see No. 2). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;a meeting&#8221; (akin to A, No. 1), occurs in <span class='bible'>Mat 25:6<\/span> (in some mss. in <span class='bible'>Mat 25:1<\/span>, and in <span class='bible'>Mat 27:32<\/span>, in some mss.); <span class='bible'>Act 28:15<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Th 4:17<\/span>. It is used in the papyri of a newly arriving magistrate. &#8220;It seems that the special idea of the word was the official welcome of a newly arrived dignitary&#8221; (Moulton, Greek Test. Gram.
