He graduated from the old Augusta College in 1836; studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1838, and practiced successfully in Texas; was converted in 1842; taught languages two years in St. Charles College, Missouri; in 1845 joined the Missouri Conference, in which and in the Louisville Conference (1851-60) he filled important stations until his death, in 1882.
