But the word is also used as a rendering of different Hebrew words, e.g. , ken, pedestal, place (Gen 40:13, the King James Version place; Gen 41:13); , abhodhah, labor, work (1Ch 6:32); , pekuddah, oversight, charge (Psa 109:8); , maamadh, literally, standing, e.g. waiting at table (1Ch 23:28); , mishmar, charge, observance or service of the temple (Neh 13:14 the King James Version).<\/p>\n<p>Similarly in the New Testament the word is used in periphrastic renderings, e.g. priest&#8217;s office (Luk 1:8, Luk 1:9); office of a deacon (, diakona, 1Ti 3:10); office of a bishop (, episkope, 1Ti 3:1). the Revised Version (British and American) uses other renderings, e.g. ministry (Rom 11:13); serve as deacons (1Ti 3:10). See DEED. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> or hieratia, denotes &#8220;a priest&#8217;s office,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Luk 1:9<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Heb 7:5<\/span>, RV, &#8220;priest&#8217;s office&#8221; (AV &#8220;office of the priesthood&#8221;). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to officiate as a priest&#8221; (akin to A, No. 2), is translated &#8220;he executed the priest&#8217;s office&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Luk 1:8<\/span>. The word is frequent in inscriptions. <\/p>\n<p> Notes: (I) In <span class='bible'>Rom 11:13<\/span>, AV, diakonia, &#8220;a ministry,&#8221; is translated &#8220;office&#8221; (RV, &#8220;ministry&#8221;). (2) In <span class='bible'>Act 1:20<\/span>, RV, episkope, &#8220;an overseership,&#8221; is translated &#8220;office&#8221; (marg., &#8220;overseership;&#8221; AV, &#8220;bishopric&#8221;).
