Osprey. Sometimes called fish hawk or fishing eagle, the osprey is a member of the hawk family. With a six-foot wingspan, it is one of the larger birds of prey. The osprey appears on the list of “unclean birds” (Lev 11:13; Deu 14:12). Some scholars think the term refers to the black vulture. Also see Vulture.<\/p>\n
Heb. ‘ozniyyah, an unclean bird according to the Mosaic law (Lev. 11:13<\/span>; Deut. 14:12<\/span>); the fish-eating eagle (Pandion haliaetus); one of the lesser eagles.
