See ANOTHER, MORE, B, Note (1), SOME. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> indicates either numerical distinction, e.g., <span class='bible'>Luk 4:43<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 5:7<\/span>; or generic distinction, different in character, etc., e.g., <span class='bible'>Luk 9:29<\/span>, &#8220;(the fashion of His countenance) was altered,&#8221; lit., &#8220;became other;&#8221; <span class='bible'>Luk 23:32<\/span>, &#8220;two others, (malefactors),&#8221; RV, where the plural serves to make the necessary distinction between them and Christ; <span class='bible'>Act 2:4<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 19:39<\/span> (&#8220;other matters&#8221;); <span class='bible'>1Co 14:21<\/span>, AV, &#8220;other&#8221; (RV, &#8220;strange&#8221;); <span class='bible'>2Co 11:4<\/span> (2nd and 3rd parts, RV, &#8220;different;&#8221; in the 1st clause, allos, &#8220;another&#8221;). For the distinction between this and No. 1, see under ANOTHER. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> signifies &#8220;remaining, the rest.&#8221; It is translated &#8220;other,&#8221; or &#8220;others,&#8221; e.g., in <span class='bible'>Mat 25:11<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 4:19<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 18:9<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 28:9<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Rom 1:13<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Co 9:5<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Eph 2:3<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Th 4:13<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Th 5:6<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Ti 5:20<\/span>, e.g., the RV renders this word &#8220;the rest&#8221; (AV, &#8220;other&#8221; or &#8220;others&#8221;); in <span class='bible'>Eph 4:17<\/span>, some mss. have loipa, neuter plural, AV, &#8220;other (Gentiles);&#8221; see the RV See REMNANT, REST (the). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;belonging to another, not one&#8217;s own,&#8221; is translated &#8220;other men&#8217;s&#8221; in <span class='bible'>2Co 10:15<\/span>; <span class='bible'>1Ti 5:22<\/span>; in <span class='bible'>Heb 9:25<\/span>, RV, &#8220;not his own&#8221; (AV, &#8220;of others&#8221;). See MUTUAL and ONE ANOTHER. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;one,&#8221; is sometimes translated &#8220;other&#8221; when expressing the second of a pair, e.g., <span class='bible'>Mat 24:40<\/span>, AV (RV, &#8220;one&#8221;), See ONE, A (4). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> signifying &#8220;that one,&#8221; implying remoteness as compared with houtos, &#8220;this,&#8221; is translated &#8220;the other,&#8221; e.g., in <span class='bible'>Mat 23:23<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 11:42<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 18:14<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p> Notes: (1) In <span class='bible'>Act 26:22<\/span>, AV, ouden ektos, lit., &#8220;nothing besides&#8221; is translated &#8220;none other things&#8221; (RV, &#8220;nothing but&#8221;). (2) The plural of the definite article is translated &#8220;others&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Act 17:32<\/span>; in <span class='bible'>Jud 1:23<\/span>, AV, &#8220;others&#8221; (RV, &#8220;some&#8221;).
